PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video reproducing apparatus capable of reproducing compressed video data through the same route by means of one decoder when selectively reproducing compressed video data downloaded via a network and stored on a hard disk and compressed video data read from a disk reproducing device. SOLUTION: A DVD changer 31 includes a function only for reading second compressed video data written on a DVD, and an MPEG decoder 19 is provided in a main body of a karaoke system. The second compressed video data are read at high speed and temporarily buffered on a hard disk 17. Furthermore, first compressed video data are stored also on the hard disk 17. When reproducing the first and second video data, the same MPEG decoder 19 is used for the both, and data are transmitted through the same route as inputting from the hard disk 17 to the MPEG decoder 19.
