PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing method and its apparatus that fractionalizes encoded digital data signals into subchannels with variable granularity to map the data into a tributer of the SONET/SDH pass with cut through. SOLUTION: Digital data are input and then a digital data stream 110 are produced. Further, the data are serialized on the digital data stream 110 according to attributes of data frames 311, 321, 341, 331, 332, 322 and idle data are added so that a digital data string 211 to 214 containing data frame whose attributes are identical becomes X byte in length. Furthermore, the digital data stream 110 is mapped into X sheets virtual containers 411 to 414 by byte disinterleaving and besides is mapped into at least one sheet of the virtual containers 411 to 414 by byte interleaving.
