METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING POLYMER PARTICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for stably obtaining polymer particles having a very sharp particle diameter distribution in a short time by the radical polymerization in an aqueous medium. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing polymer particles by polymerizing a vinyl monomer in the presence of a polymerization initiator in an aqueous medium comprises a seed particle formation step of polymerizing the vinyl monomer in the absence of a surface active agent at least at the initial stage to form seed polymer particles and a particle diameter enlarging step of polymerizing the vinyl monomer in the presence of part of the seed latex obtained in the seed particle formation step by seed polymerization to enlarge the particle diameter, and using a vinyl monomer having a solubility in water at 25°C of <0.3 (g/100 g-water) as the monomer used in the seed particle formation step.
