PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autonomous storage device capable of updating the system management software of the autonomous storage device without having to stop the autonomous storage device that stores a plurality of contents or reduce its serviceability. SOLUTION: The autonomous storage device 1 includes two system management means 30A, 50A for managing the autonomous storage device 1 and a storage means 70 for storing contents. Each of the system management means 30A, 50A stops the operation of the other system management means and updates the system management software for operating the other system management means. Then the operation of the other system management means is started and the management of the contents is shifted from one of the system management means to the other of the system management means.
