An occupant restraint system instantaneously operating when a vehicle accident such as rollover and side collision occurs to receive and restrain the shoulder part of an occupant against vertical and lateral impactive accelerations from the occupant so as to protect the body of the occupant. In the occupant restraint system (A), a shoulder upper part restraint device (4) restraining the right side shoulder part of the occupant (2) is installed on the back rest (1a) of a seat (1). A motor (12) driven by detection signals when the vehicle accident occurs, an instantaneous rotating mechanism part (13) moved by the motor (12), a fork arm (14A) fitted to the instantaneous rotating mechanism part (13), and a shoulder side part restraint device (5A) fitted to the other end of the fork arm (14A) and having a shoulder support part (15A) protecting the side part (3b) of the shoulder of the occupant among the body of the occupant (2) are installed on the side part of the back rest (1a) of the seat (1). |
