PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain automatic threshold adjuster and adjustment method for determining a binary signal in which the threshold is automatically controlled optimally through a simple arrangement without stopping communication. SOLUTION: The automatic threshold adjuster comprises a binary determination section 2 for determining the signal value by a threshold voltage V<SB>th</SB>, a binary determination section 1 for determining the signal value by a threshold voltage (V<SB>th</SB>+Δ), a binary determination section 3 for determining the signal value by a threshold voltage (V<SB>th</SB>-Δ), an error detecting section 1 for obtaining the different ratio A of determination results from the binary determination section 1 and the binary determination section 2, an error detecting section 2 for obtaining the different ratio B of determination results from the binary determination section 2 and the binary determination section 3, a section for comparing the ratio A and ratio B, and a threshold automatic adjustment section for altering the threshold voltage V<SB>th</SB>based on the comparison results from the ratio comparing section.
