PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projected image inspection apparatus capable of inspecting an optical engine in a space narrower than that for a conventional inspection apparatus of an optical engine of a projection display apparatus. SOLUTION: The projected image inspection apparatus inspects the optical engine including optical members from a light valve to a projection lens used for a projection type display apparatus for making each color light emitted from the light valves respectively arranged for a plurality of color lights incident onto the projection lens and projecting a projected image onto a screen on the basis of the projected image and includes: at least one image forming optical system arranged before the image forming face of the projection lens and forming part of the image of the luminous flux emitted from the projection lens; and at least one image observation means for observing the image formed by the image forming optical system.
