PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film carrying unit capable of simplifying a configuration and smoothly taking up a photographic film in forming a housing space part where the photographic film is taken up and housed. SOLUTION: The film carrying unit is equipped with a carrying roller for carrying the belt photographic film along a carrying path, aperture parts for processing 44 and 64 provided in the middle of the carrying path so as to read the image of the photographic film, and the housing space part in which the photographic film carryed along the carrying path is taken up and housed. The housing space part is surrounded by an annular inner peripheral surface on which the surface of the inserted photographic film slides to be guided, and a covering plate 812 and a door 813 covering a pair of apertures formed on both sides of the inner peripheral surface in a film width direction, and is formed as an ellipse long lengthwise that dimension in a vertical direction is longer than dimension in a horizontal direction in the width direction vision of the photographic film.
