A production method for a filter catalyst capable of producing a filter catalyst in which blocking of air holes by a catalyst layer is prevented. The production method for a filter catalyst comprises the step of spreading coating slurry on a catalyst carrier base material, the step of removing excessive coating slurry, and the step of drying/firing the coating slurry, characterized in that excessive coating slurry is removed by repeating the step of holding the axial-direction one end of the catalyst carrier base material and the other end with a pressure difference applied to between them and the step of holding the one end of the base material and the other end under the same pressure. The production method can produce a filter catalyst having a sufficient air permeability ensured and being free from a rise in pressure loss.
