<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set capable of improving a reception sensitivity when a reception field strength is lowered thereby stabilizing a telephone call. <P>SOLUTION: A reception field strength detection means 5 detects reception field strength based on reception level information D1 outputted from a reception part 6. A switch control part 43 of a reception amplification control means 4 compares a reception field strength detection value with a previously decided threshold. When the reception field strength detection value becomes below the threshold, a signal switch 41 and a power switch 42 are controlled so that a reception signal S1 is supplied to a front end reception amplifier 3, power is also supplied to the front end reception amplifier 3 and the reception signal S1 is amplified and is inputted to the reception part 6. When the reception field strength detection value is not less than the previously decided threshold, the signal switch 41 is controlled so that the reception signal S1 is directly inputted to the reception part 6 by bypassing the front end reception amplifier 3.
