Method for inspecting digital photographs produced by a video camera system for the occurrence of stationary images. The method has the following steps: analysis of the temporal behavior of bit values for a predetermined number of pixel positions in a frame sequence for variations during the operation of the video camera system and detection of an image still state if the variation between pixel values is smaller than a predefined values that is derived from the noise at the particular pixel position of the image sensor. The invention also relates to a corresponding driver assistance system and a video camera system for use with a method for detecting the occurrence of stationary images in an image or video sequence.
