<p>The valve or stopcock (8) for a pipe (7) passing under a street or roadway has a vertical drive shaft geared to it. The shaft may be telescopic and may be enclosed in a telescopic outer tube (1) consisting of two sections (24,25) sliding together. A sleeve (23) resists rotation of the outer tube. A cap with a lid (33) is set in the road metal at the surface of the roadway and accommodates a geared indicator (2) and a square drive peg (4).</p> |
