<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display system and an image display method for suppressing the quantity of overall data running through an on-vehicle network by reducing the transfer resolution of unnecessary image data according to the surrounding conditions of an automobile. <P>SOLUTION: This image display system is provided with a plurality of image pickup devices for imaging the periphery of a vehicle, a display device for displaying image data acquired by a plurality of image pickup devices and a communicating means between the plurality of image pickup devices and the display device. This image display system is further provided with a plurality of distance measuring means for detecting the distance between a vehicle and its peripheral object, and a speed detecting means for detecting the speed of the vehicle. The image pickup device judges whether resolution in transmitting the picked-up image data to the display device should be made lower on the basis of the detected speed and the distance detected by the distance measuring means arranged in the vicinity. When judging that the resolution of the image data should be made lower, the image pickup device converts the resolution of the image data lower, and transmits the image data to the display device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
