<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer with good operability, which can bring about a desired printing result specified in printing conditions by a user. <P>SOLUTION: In this printer, printing condition information, which is held by a printing condition holding part 24, is updated depending on the situation of a duplex printing unit 30 or the like, which is connected as a printing option device 22, and the definition of a printing condition of a storage area in a folder constituting part 14 is updated in accordance with the updated printing condition information. In the folder constituting part 14, a folder for the printing condition is composed of only the printing function of being printed by the printer 10, because constituted based on the definition of the printing condition of the storage area.
