PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene encoding an R-isomer-specific alcohol dehydrogenase derived from Pichia ofunaensis; to obtain a transformant capable of producing the enzyme; and to provide a method for producing various kinds of optically active alcohols by using the transformant expressing the enzyme.
SOLUTION: The polynucleotide is the one encoding the R-isomer-specific alcohol dehydrogenase or a homolog thereof, and having the following characteristics: (1) action: reducing a ketone by using β-NADH as a coenzyme to provide the optically active alcohol, and oxidizing an alcohol by using β-NAD as a coenzyme to provide a corresponding ketone or aldehyde; and (2) substrate specificity: (i) utilizing the β-NADH as the coenzyme for the reduction reaction, and utilizing the β-NAD as the coenzyme for the oxidation reaction, and (ii) forming 4-hydroxy-2-butanone by oxidizing (R)-1,3-butanediol.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
