Operating data measuring method for evaluating the thermal loading of vehicle components has the following steps: the temperature of a vehicle component and or operating medium is measured; after the starting of each temperature increase, the heating period until the end of a temperature increase is measured; after the beginning of each temperature drop the cooling period until the end of a temperature fall is measured and; the measured heating and cooling periods are stored and used in the evaluation of thermal component loading. The invention also relates to a gearbox control unit that is configured so that it can implement the inventive method.
