The present invention discloses a multimedia information on demand system and the method thereof. The said system comprises a TV terminal, a multimedia terminal which is connected to the TV terminal, a broadband access server which is connected to the multimedia terminal, a navigation server which is connected to the broadband access server and is used for authenticating, managing and providing index directory to the subscribers that demand information via the multimedia terminal, and Interne Content Providers that are connected to the broadband access server directly or via the Internet and are used for providing and downloading multimedia information according to the subscribers' demand information. The said method includes performing interactive VOD process between the multimedia terminal and Internet Content Providers according to the administration of the navigation server. According to the present multimedia information on demand system and the method thereof, the multimedia resources provided by the Internet Content Providers can be accessed conveniently by the subscribers, and the operation procedures are simplified.
