摘要 A catalyst system for the reaction of hydrogen cyanide and acetylene to produce acrylonitrile comprises a solution of cuprous chloride in an organic nitrile having a boiling point above 100 DEG C. at atmospheric pressure. Specified solvents are benzonitrile, adiponitrile and phenylacetonitrile; other suitable nitriles are the aliphatic and aromatic nitriles of suitable boiling point, such as the butyronitriles.ALSO:Acrylonitrile is prepared by passing hydrogen cyanide and an excess of acetylene into a substantially non-aqueous solution of cuprous chloride in an organic nitrile which is substantially thermally stable under the reaction conditions and has a boiling point at atmospheric pressure above 100 DEG C., said solution being maintained on the acid side, e.g. by the addition of a strong anhydrous acid, and at a temperature above the boiling-point of the acrylonitrile; thus the HCN and C2H2 may contain 0.01 -10% of anhydrous HC1 by weight of HCN. Specified nitrile solvents are benzonitrile, adiponitrile and phenylacetonitrile; other suitable nitriles are the aliphatic and aromatic nitriles of suitable boiling-point, such as the butyronitriles. Other organic solvents may be present. The molar ratio of HCN to C2H2 is preferably from 1:2 to 1:15.
