PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably manufacturing polymer particles having a sharp molecular weight distribution in a short time. SOLUTION: The method for producing polymer particles by polymerizing a vinyl monomer in the presence of a polymerization initiator in an aqueous medium comprises a soap-free polymerization step of polymerizing the vinyl monomer in the absence of a surface active agent at least at the initial stage to form seed polymer particles and setting the power Pv [kW/m3] necessary for agitation per unit volume in the soap-free polymerization step in the range of 0.001-0.15 [kW/m3].
