Process to reduce sulphuric acid corrosion and sulphuric smells in a water supply or water treatment system

In a process to reduce sulphuric acid corrosion and sulphuric smells in a water supply or water treatment system, the water is cooled to between 2[deg]C and 4[deg]C. The cooling is effected in pump stations, water tanks or effluent water drainage channels prior to an increase in pressure. The water is subject to additional cooling in water channels or ducts equipped with lock systems and heat exchangers. A batch of water is released from the lock system when the temperature falls to a predetermined lower threshold. Heat extracted from the water is recovered for further use.
