<p>The reaction products obtained by the reaction of phosphates of lime with nitric acid are solidified by treating the still warm and plastic reaction masses with already cooled and reduced, preferably finely ground, reaction material. The plastic reaction masses in the form of large lumps may be mixed with the cold reaction material in a mixing apparatus such as a rotary drum which may be provided with dividing devices, e.g. a rotary shaft carrying knives; the product may be discharged as fairly large lumps, e.g. the size of the fist, which after exposure to the air may be broken up, or the material may be discharged directly in the grain size. If necessary the product may be mixed with further quantities of the cold reaction material. The quantity of added material may depend upon the desired degree of subdivision of the final product or upon the desired rate of cooling and the degree of subdivision of the added material may depend upon the degree of subdivision of the fresh mass and/or upon the desired rate of cooling. The cooling action of the added material can be increased by other cooling means, e.g. by the use of cooled apparatus or of cold air or other gas. Specification 366,737 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the process can also be applied "whenever one stage in the manufacture of a manure leads to a pasty or semi-liquid material at high temperature, which for use must be in a finely divided form and where solidification of the material is necessary for the subdivision thereof." This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p> |
