A tube conveyor station, which may be a send station or a receive station or both, includes a support structure (14) having a tube connection union connected, when the station forms part of a conveyor system, to a transport tube (11) through which a carrier (12) can be conveyed to or from the station. The station further includes a carrier receptacle (21) movable relative to the support structure between a first receive or despatch position, in which the receptacle communicates with the transport tube in use, to receive a carrier from, or despatch a carrier to, the transport tube, and a second, load or unload, position remote from the first position of the receptacle and in which a carrier can be loaded into or unloaded from said receptacle. A closure member (22) is movable with the receptacle relative to the support structure and spaced from the receptacle such that it closes the open end of the transport tube when the receptacle is in its second position. <IMAGE>
