The opening system for a washing machine has two plastics sections (1,2) bonded by welds (3) obviating the need for seals. The weld zone (3) houses a filiform element which breaks the welds when it is actuated, to facilitate separation of sections (1,2) and repairs of the machine. A throat (4) enables a sealing joint to be inserted for use of the machine to continue until the sections (1,2) are bolted together.
