The method for the differential diagnosis between inflammatory and vascular diseases of the optic nerve comprises the analysis of the peripheral blood, in particular assaying for E-rosettes with neurospecific antigen of the retina. The presence or absence of autosensitization to neurospecific antigen of the retina allows one to differentiate between inflammatory and vascular genesis of the disease.
