The method involves providing a series of holes (5) in one leather sheet (1) near its edge (3). Parallel slits are extended from the edge to the holes, to form tabs (4) having a narrow part (4a) extending between the holes and terminated by a bulging part (4b). Openings (7) are provided in another leather sheet (2) near a corresponding edge to receive the tabs, where dimensions of the openings correspond to the narrow part. An independent claim is also included for assembled leather sheets or plates.
