PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect leak of liquid sodium from a valve with high precision. SOLUTION: A leak detector 20 for detecting the leak of liquid sodium from a valve 1 controlling flow of liquid sodium is provided. When liquid sodium leaks from a gap between a valve rod 2 and a valve seat 6, acoustic emission generated accompanying the leak transmits in the valve rod 2. This acoustic emission is guided with a waveguide rod 25 to a conversion unit 26, the acoustic emission is converted to electric signal with a piezoelectric element provided in the conversion unit 26 and analyzed by an analyzing unit 28. The analyzing unit 28 recognizes the generation of leak when signal intensity of a specific frequency exceeds a threshold value. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
