PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-barrier coating agent capable of undergoing heat treatment at a temperature lower than those in conventional cases, to obtain a resin film having high water resistance and gas-barrier tendency by heat treatment of the filmy product of the coating agent, and to provide a method for producing the resin film. SOLUTION: The gas-barrier coating agent comprises (A) a polyvinyl alcohol-based polymer, (B) a poly(meth)acrylic acid-based polymer, and an organic esterification catalyst. In this coating agent, the weight ratio A/B is (97:3) to (3/97), and the amount of the organic esterification catalyst is 0.01-50 pt(s).wt. based on a total of 100 pts.wt. of the components A and B.
