PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic traveling cleaner which discriminates an object placed on a surface to be cleaned so as to prevent an object with the possibility of obstructing cleaning work from being sucked. SOLUTION: Whether or not a sensor belt reacts is judged (step S1) and whether or not the sensor belt continuously reacts for a prescribed period is judged in the case that it reacts (step S2). In the case that the sensor belt continuously reacts for the prescribed period in the step S2, since it is considered as the object with the possibility of obstructing the cleaning work, a long object like a cord for instance, suction danger is discriminated (step S2#). Accompanying that, a control part 2 instructs the suction stoppage of a suction part 8 (step S3), the decline of suction force by winding in the long object like the cord is prevented, and the cleaning work is efficiently and safely executed.
