<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent toner from falling from the vicinity of a cleaning device, which results from refresh processing performed for properly maintaining image density in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Two or more groups of toner bands are separately printed when refresh processing is performed. When the circumferential length of a slide friction roller 7 is defined as A(mm) and the linear velocity of the slide friction roller 7 is defined as B(mm/s), toner band printing time T<SB>1</SB>(sec) is set so as to satisfy T<SB>1</SB><A/B.
