834,671. Wasning granular materials: pneumatic separating. ETABLISSEMENTS NEYRPIC, and CHARBONNAGES DE FRANCE. Nov. 26, 1956 [Nov. 25, 1955; Jan. 11, 1956; March 2, 1956; Nov. 15, 1956], No. 36145/56. Classes 82(2) and 117 A mixture of solid particulate materials is separated into its constituents by being passed into an upward flowing fluid stream in a closed conduit, the latter being inclined at an angle such that when the fluid flow is held between the limiting velocities appropriate to the entrainment of the respective constituents, a dune of unseparated material is formed in one place, the material forming the dune being constantly stirred. The material is added at 13 to the conduit 10 in which the fluid flow is arranged so that heavy material descends and is evacuated at 14 whilst light material leaves at 12. The dune D forms above a constriction 13<SP>1</SP> which increases the local velocity of the fluid. Apparatus in which a plurality of dunes is formed, and apparatus giving more than two separated products, is also disclosed. |
