PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide no obstacle which blocks ultrasonic waves between an ultrasonic receiver and a pen with an ultrasonic transmitter when the transmission and reception of handwriting data are carried out with ultrasonic signals between the pen with an ultrasonic transmitter and the ultrasonic receiver. SOLUTION: A handwriting input device is an input device which temporally houses a writing pen, which is equipped with a paper sheet on which writing is possible and an ultrasonic transmitter, and position coordinate data, which are written by the pen, in a receiver equipped with a storage device by using ultrasonic waves emitted from the pen.
