PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a field emission display, constituted by combining a low-electric-field electron discharge element and a fluorescent body, from decreasing in contrast. SOLUTION: A reverse bias is applied between a gate and a cathode of an electron discharge element connected to a scanning line in an unselected state.
