PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a read defect of a document image, even if an image reader added with vertical vibration. SOLUTION: A traveling body 10 mounted with an optical element used to read the document image is moved reciprocatively on rails 17a and 17b for executing reading of the document image. The traveling body 10 is equipped with a pair of rotating bodies 19a and 19b capable of rotating. Those rotating bodies 19a and 19b are pressed with a pair of longitudinal flanks 21 of the rails 17a and 17b. Consequently, the traveling body 10 has its vertical movement restricted by friction, generated in between the rotary bodies 19a and 19b and rails 17a and 17b, while the reciprocative movability on the rails 17a and 17b is maintained.
