PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crucible-type melting and holding furnace capable of preventing the overcharge of a melted material and effectively utilizing an exhaust gas without setting an exhaust gas sensing temperature after heat exchange to high temperature. SOLUTION: In this melting and holding furnace comprising a preheating tower for preheating the melted material, a melting crucible mounted at a lower part of the preheating tower and receiving the melted material supplied from the preheating tower, a melting crucible chamber accommodating the melting crucible, a heating means for melting, heating the melting crucible, a holding crucible receiving the molten bath supplied from the melting crucible, a holding crucible chamber accommodating the holding crucible, and a heating means for holding, heating the holding crucible, the exhaust gas of high temperature produced from the heating means for holding is prevented from flowing into the melting crucible chamber and the preheating tower.
