PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately judging the twisted state of a wire rope, and also a long life wire rope for a high load and having a stable life in use, as judged by using the method. SOLUTION: This method is provided by judging the wire rope showing >1 value of (P<SB>B</SB>/P<SB>A</SB>) as un-twisted, and showing <1 as up-twisted on taking the rope pitch of the wire rope as P<SB>A</SB>and the rope pitch of the wire rope after dismantling and re-assembling as P<SB>B</SB>.
