PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide soft austenitic stainless bright annealed steel containing Mn, excellent in gloss and free from surface coloring by controlling the residence time and the dew point of atmospheric gas according to the temperature range during the bright annealing. SOLUTION: A soft austenitic stainless bright annealed steel manufacturing method is characterized in that austenitic stainless steel having the composition consisting of, by mass,≤0.03% C,≤2% Si, 2-5% Mn, 12-20% Cr, 5-10% Ni, 1-4% Cu,≤0.03% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is subjected to bright annealing with the residence time being 5-60 seconds in the temperature range from ordinary temperature to 800°C in a reducing atmospheric gas while the dew point is adjusted to be≤-45°C, then with the residence time being 30-180 seconds in reducing atmospheric gas while the dew point is adjusted to be≤-40°C in the temperature range of 800-1,150°C, wherein the grain size of oxides containing Mn generated on a film surface is below 0.3μm.
