PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic coagulant which has excellent coagulating and decoloring effects, and to provide a polymer flocculant which has excellent characteristics such as flock coarsening, flock strength increase, the reduction in the water content of dehydrated cake, and the decolorization, COD reduction, and the like of a filtrate. SOLUTION: This organic coagulant is characterized by comprising a water-soluble (co)polymer containing a monomer represented by the general formula (1): CH<SB>2</SB>=CR<SP>1</SP>-CO-X-Q-N<SP>+</SP>R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>×Z<SP>-</SP>(X is O or NH; Q is a 1 to 4C alkylene or 2 to 4C hydroxyalkylene; R<SP>1</SP>is H or methyl; R<SP>2</SP>is a 7 to 30C aralkyl or alkylaryl; R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each independently H, a 1 to 16C alkyl, a 7 to 30C aralkyl or alkylaryl; Z<SP>-</SP>is a counter anion) as an essential constituting unit, and the polymer flocculant is characterized by comprising the polymer coagulant and one or more other water-soluble (co)polymers.
