PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new aromatic diamine useful as a raw material for highly heat-resistant condensed polymers. SOLUTION: The new aromatic diamine is represented by general formula(1)( wherein, Z is a carboxy group or an active ester group represented by general formula(2); In the groups in formula(1), the hydrogen atoms on the benzene rings may be replaced with at least one group selected from alkyl, aromatic, ether, hydroxy and trifluoromethyl groups and a fluorine atom; in formula(2), R is an alkyl, pyridyl, quinolyl, aromatic or benzotriazole group, and the hydrogen atoms on the above alkyl, pyridyl, quinolyl, aromatic and benzotriazole groups may be replaced with at least one organic group ).
