PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a trimellitic anhydride chloride in high yield and in high purity. SOLUTION: A method for producing a trimellitic anhydride ester is provided, comprising the following process: Trimellitic anhydride is reacted with thionyl chloride to obtain the trimellitic anhydride chloride, which is then reacted with an alcohol.
