PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus capable of producing granulated slag which has a low degree of foaming and is usable as an aggregate or the like irrespectively of the temperature of molten slag melted in a reducing atmosphere. SOLUTION: The method for producing granulated slag comprises a dispersing and air-cooling step for dispersing and air-cooling molten slag S<SB>L</SB>melted in a reducing atmosphere and a water-cooling step for solidifying, with water, the dispersed air-cooled molten slag S<SB>A</SB>dispersed and air-cooled in the dispersing air-cooling step. The apparatus for producing granulated slag comprises a dispersing means 41 for dispersing molten slag S<SB>L</SB>discharged from a melting furnace 3 for melting in a reduced atmosphere and a water-cooling means 46 for water-cooling molten slag S<SB>A</SB>dispersed by the dispersing means 41.
