<p>An evaporative cooler designed for installation within the roof space of a pitched roof has an inlet which is inclined in such a manner as to extend substantially parallel to the plane of the pitched roof when installed, and lying closely adjacent to the external surface of the pitched roof. In one aspect, the air permeable cooling means of the cooler is provided by pads arranged in a zig-zag configuration and water is supplied to the upper ends of the pads via a perforate channel and underlying layer of water-absorbent material which spreads the water along the length and width of the upper edge of each pad. In another aspect the inlet is closed when the cooler is not in use by a louvre system to prevent penetration of rain and dust into the interior of the housing and also to prevent escape of warm air from the interior of the building during winter months.</p> |
