<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracking method capable of obtaining a correct tracking adjusting position when an optimal tracking position is changed during tracking adjustment or an optimal adjusting position is mistaken due to noise or the like. <P>SOLUTION: During tracking adjustment, a maximum ENV(envelope value) is compared with the ENV of a best position in a step S13.
