PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel, having a lens barrier which is surely opened or closed and is restrained from becoming large-sized. SOLUTION: The lens barrel that is drawn forward or backward between a retracting position and a photographing position includes: a forward drawing unit which is positioned at a leading end, when the lens barrel is drawn furthest forward; a first frame member 16 which, accompanying the forward or backward drawing, moves forward or backward in the direction of an optical axis without rotating; a second frame member 15, which accompanying the forward or backward drawing, moves forward or backward in the direction of the optical axis integrally with the first frame member and turns about the optical axis in relation to the first frame member; an optical element 16a composing a part of an optical system; at least a pair of barrier vanes 27x, which move between a closing position where they block the optical axis and an opening position where they retract from the optical path; a barrier vane drive member 27c which is disposed opposite to the optical element with the barrier vanes between them and drives the barrier vanes by turning about the optical axis; and a driving force transmission part 34 which transmits turning force of the second frame member to the barrier vane drive member.
