PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenating method capable of reducing lowering of activity of a hydrogenation catalyst when hydrogenating a monoolefin and/or diolefin in a C<SB>5</SB>fraction and a method for producing olefins in which the C<SB>5</SB>fraction can effectively be utilized by mixing the C<SB>5</SB>fraction with naphtha. SOLUTION: The method for hydrogenating the C<SB>5</SB>fraction comprises hydrogenating a monoolefin and/or a diolefin after washing C<SB>5</SB>fraction containing the monoolefin and/or the diolefin with water. In the hydrogenating method, the C<SB>5</SB>fraction is washed with water by a method mixing the C<SB>5</SB>fraction with water by using a static mixer and separating free water by separation by standing. In the hydrogenating method, the C<SB>5</SB>fraction containing the monoolefin and/or the diolefin is preferably a C<SB>5</SB>fraction produced by thermal decomposition of naphtha and left after extracting isoprene by an isoprene extraction plant.
