PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator car position detection device whereby slippage between a transmission sheave and a governor rope is slightly generated with a simple structure. SOLUTION: The governor rope is moved by lifting and lowering of a car, an encoder 12 is operated by a transmission sheave 13, and a lifting and lowering position of the car 3 in an elevator shaft 1 is detected through the encoder 12. A winding angle of the governor rope with respect to the transmission sheave 13 is increased by an idle wheel 15, and a transmission chain 21 is wound around an encoder chain sprocket 14 and an idle chain sprocket 16 in order to synchronize the rotation both of them. Thereby, slippage between the sheave of a governor and the governor rope can be easily reduced in a short time period and at a low cost by simple repair work, the lifting and lowering position of the car can be detected with required accuracy, and operation control of the elevator can be maintained in a normal state.
