PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated tool for remarkably improving performance, by exhibiting superior abrasion resistance, even under a severe work environment such as becoming the extremely high temperature in the edge temperature in cutting work like superhigh speed cutting and high speed dry processing. SOLUTION: This surface-coated tool has a base material 2 and a surface layer, and has an intermediate layer 3 between the base material and the surface layer, and is constituted so that heat conductivity of the intermediate layer 3 becomes lower than heat conductivity of the surface layer.
