PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for disposing of garbage, which can spontaneously promote organic substance decomposition by a microorganism, can be easily maintained and controlled, and can significantly reduce a running cost. SOLUTION: This apparatus comprises a microorganism reaction tank 12 for containing garbage, microorganisms for decomposing the garbage and a filter material, a releasing device 18 provided on the bottom of the microorganism reaction tank, an exhaust part 16 connected to and in communication with an opening formed above the microorganism reaction tank, a power transmission means disposed and fixed on the outside of the apparatus including the microorganism reaction tank, an agitator 15 disposed in the microorganism reaction tank and driven by the power transmission means, a drain pipe 24 disposed at the bottom of the microorganism reaction tank 12 for draining the water from decomposed organic substances, and an air intake part 19-1.
