PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wastewater treatment method and a wastewater treatment system, by which sedimentation is sufficiently performed with a thickener upon treatment of industrial wastewater with a large load fluctuation. SOLUTION: The wastewater treatment method comprises sedimenting using a thickener wastewater that is mixed with a flocculant by continuous addition of the flocculant and then discharging the resultant clear fluid. The wastewater treatment method and the system therefor comprise continuous sampling a part of wastewater to be supplied to the thickener, supplying such a sample wastewater to a mini thickener test system, continuously observing with a TV camera a difference between the resulting interface position (between the supernatant solution generated by the mini thickener test system and the floc-forming fluid) and the same in a good steady state, observing turbidity of the clean fluid, and controlling the amount of the flocculant to be added based on the observation results.
