This invention provides for detecting genomic amplification and/or deletion in cancer tissues and to methods and compositions for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The invention makes use of the combination of gene expression profiling and gene mapping and the identification of specific genes found to be co-amplified with the gene c-erb B2 in breast cancer.
