<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that only one interface is used in the case of using an IC card even if the card includes a plurality of interfaces. <P>SOLUTION: An external apparatus 1 comprising a plurality of interfaces 11, 13 with an IC card 2 includes a function for notifying a message indicating the presence of another interface in an initial response from the IC card to the external apparatus if the IC card is activated using one of the interfaces. Furthermore, if a CPU of the IC card becomes idle for a long time in command processing via one interface, the external apparatus sends another command to the IC card via the other interface.
